A QUESTION OF SPORT: FRANK LAMPARD

Professional footballers have spent the majority of their lives focused on mastering their art but, away from the beautiful game, which other sports do they take an interest in?

The official Chelsea website continues to survey the squad to get a brief insight into their other sporting passions…

Frank Lampard
‘I played cricket from the age of 11 to 15 as a batsman, and I really enjoyed it but it was a lot of commitment, so being professional wasn’t ever going to be an option as I wanted to be a footballer.

‘I still watch England games when I can, and since meeting him a few years back I’ve become good mates with Kevin Pietersen. He’s been to Cobham and a few games at Stamford Bridge, and he’s a member of the Chelsea Club too. He’s been doing rehab work recently and I hope he can be fit for the Ashes in the summer.’

England begin the test series against Australia on 10 July, with Pietersen hoping to be fully recovered from injury in time to take part. The five venues chosen to hold the tests are Trent Bridge, Lords, Old Trafford, the Riverside Ground and The Oval. England will be looking to retain the urn when the series begins having won the 2010/11 series 3-1 on Australian soil.
