The first opponent in my professional life was Leverkusen, the team I then played for after Mainz and it was quite a big game. So I started my first game for Mainz and I started from the beginning. I was really excited and it was a home game, a draw, and it was really good. There was no Michael Ballack for Leverkusen then, he was still here at Chelsea, but there was Stefan Kiessling and Sami Hyypia was playing his first game for them.
It was with my family in Tenerife (pictured below) and I like to be one week with my whole family in the holidays because I don’t see them often, so the week is very important for me and for my family.
I really like Drake (shown below at Stamford Bridge), and I like hip-hop stuff. Meek Mill – ‘Ima Boss’. That is good. Also a little bit of house before the match to get in the mood, to motivate myself.
When people are in the jungle in Australia – I’m a Celebrity… – we have the same in Germany and the British one was on before it so I watched two weeks of the British one and two weeks of the German one, and I think this is really bad but it is funny.
Always when you play it is the one after the game – the easiest training is to recover, relax and have a little bit of fun.
The hardest one mentally was in the European Championships – the 2012 quarter-final against Greece. The manager said okay, you start the match and it was my first start in this big tournament and it was mentally very hard, but Germany won and I really enjoyed it.
