Chelsea and Arsenal square off on Sunday afternoon, in what is shaping up to be a thrilling match-up between the two fierce London rivals.
Both sides will have strong squads to pick from for the big match, and here’s four key battles that could be pivotal in deciding the outcome of Sunday’s game…
4. Eden Hazard vs Héctor Bellerín
Eden Hazard looks like he might be ready to return to the starting lineup for Chelsea on Sunday, after a putting in a string of tantalising cameo appearances in recent matches as he continues his recovery from pre-season ankle surgery.
The talismanic Belgian is one of the most gifted forwards in the game, and could cause Arsenal real problems in this game. Héctor Bellerín is one of the few Premier League defenders with the pace to match that of the 26-year-old, and will certainly be in for a busy afternoon.
3. Granit Xhaka vs N’Golo Kante
Bossing the midfield will be crucial in this match, and the match-up between Granit Xhaka and N’Golo Kante looks set to be a fascinating battle.
Xhaka has the physical attributes to shut Kante down, but his lack of discipline could prove costly in such a fiercely contested match.
Kante was the PFA Player of the Year for a reason last season, and his ability to break up the play, as well as forge attacking moves, could see Xhaka chasing shadows for much of the game.
2. Alexis Sánchez vs Marcos Alonso
Alexis Sánchez has a lot of hard work ahead of him if he is to win back the adoration of Arsenal fans, after being the centre of a summer-long transfer saga which resulted in the player staying at the club seemingly agains his wishes.
Sánchez could well be deployed in the right forward position on Sunday, meaning that he will be facing off against Marcos Alonso.
Sánchez has all the tricks necessary to cause the former Bolton Wanderers man some real bother on Sunday, but Alonso’s rise to greatness at Chelsea will give him the confidence needed to rise to the challenge.
1. Álvaro Morata vs Laurent Koscielny
Álvaro Morata has taken to life at Stamford Bridge like a duck to water, scoring three goals and providing two assists in his opening four league matches for the Premier League champions.
All of Morata’s goals for Chelsea have been with his head so far, and Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny will need to be at his best in the air on Sunday to compete with the powerful Spanish forward.
