Picking the Best Potential Chelsea Lineup to Face Nottingham Forest on Wednesday

Sep 19, 2017 Posted Under: News

Much of the talk around this fixture focuses on Eden Hazard and the talismanic Belgian’s return to the starting line-up, but Nottingham Forest will be in no mood to merely warm up Chelsea’s understudies.

The Reds were poor as they lost 2-1 at home to Wolves over the weekend and will be desperate to get back on track by claiming a major scalp. Meanwhile, Antonio Conte will be keen to rest as many players as possible with the added strain of Champions League football upon the squad this season.

Goalkeeper

?A rare run-out for Caballero following his free transfer from Man City this summer.

Defence

  • Christensen

  • Rüdiger

  • Cahill

With David Luiz banned following his rash challenge against Kolasinac in Sunday’s clash against Arsenal, Christensen and Rudiger will likely get a chance to develop their defensive relationship.

Cahill’s red card against Burnley and subsequent three-match ban means this match is a good opportunity for him to get up to speed. Promising Blues academy graduate Jake Clarke-Salter could also get an elusive start as Antonio Conte looks to give the kids their opportunity.

Midfield

  • Zappacosta

  • Bakayoko

  • Fábregas

  • Kenedy

?Zappacosta was superb on his debut in the opening Champions League group stage encounter against Quarabag, scoring on his debut and providing cross after cross as the Blues won 6-0. He missed out against Arsenal to Victor Moses though and will be keen to impress.

Fabregas will likely partner summer signing Bakayoko as he searches for full fitness after arriving from Monaco with a knee injury. Defensive midfield wonderkid Ethan Ampadu could also make his debut for the Blues.

Chelsea are low on options in the left-wing back role, but with an opportunity to rest Marcos Alonso, Kenedy is likely to get the nod following his dismissal from the pre-season tour.

Eden Hazard will make his first-team return for the Blues with Michy Batshuayi continuing to make a strong case for his place in the central berth.

Former captain John Terry offered a hint that Charly Musonda may well be given his chance on the right, replying to one of Musonda’s posts on Instagram; ‘Great to see you mate, good luck Wednesday.’?
