5 Reasons Why Chelsea Need to Go All Out to Sign Lazio Goal-Machine Ciro Immobile

It’s been strongly rumoured that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is desperate to get his hands on another striker, with Lazio star Ciro Immobile rumoured to be top of his shopping list.

The Italian international is likely to want to stay with his club until the end of the season, as they are currently launching an unprecedented attack on Juventus’ now traditionally undisputed title bid.

If the Blues can lure the tenacious forward into swapping Rome for London, they would undoubtably be signing a player with all the qualities necessary to be a star in the Premier League.

Here’s five reasons why Chelsea need to go all out to sign Immobile…

5. Big Game Player

It’s all very well banging them in against the minnows, but it’s being able to stand up and be counted against top teams that separates the true superstars from the young pretenders.

Ciro Immobile has shone himself to be a real big game player so far this season, starring in some key matches.

Most notably, his brace in Lazio’s shock 2-1 victory away to Juventus, and his stunning hat-trick against AC Milan have proved that he’s fully capable of taking the important games by the scruff of the neck.

4. Striker Shortage

Chelsea’s bizarre summer transfer window strategy managed to confuse and enrage Blues fans in equal measure, as Conte’s squad members proceeded to exit through the door with the kind of haste more commonly associated with an emergency airplane evacuation.

In the striking department, the Blues have record summer signing Álvaro Morata, who has had his rip-roaring start cut short by a hamstring injury. This has left the wildly inconsistent Michy Batshuayi as the only fully fit forward.

Immobile would certainly give Chelsea more options, and increase the pressure on Conte’s strike-force to earn their place in the starting XI.

3. Prime Time

Immobile is now 27-years-old, an age where most strikers are able to combine their experience with enough pace left in the tank to be a real threat to opposition defences.

The Lazio man had an ill-fated spell with Borussia Dortmund a few seasons ago, seeing him loaned out to Sevilla where he failed to make an impact. After a strong season on loan at Torino, Lazio brought the striker in and haven’t looked back since.

With 43 goals in 53 appearances for I Biancocelesti so far, Immobile has really found his stride.

2. Conte Knows Him

Antonio Conte has managed Immobile twice before, both with Juventus and the national team.

Managers often choose to bring their former players with them to their new clubs, as they have a key understanding of the qualities they possess, and how they can be of use in a different situation.

Conte would know exactly how to get the best out of Immobile, and the bond the pair share would give them a head-start in establishing exactly what needs to be done on the pitch.

1. Goal-Scoring Machine

Having scored 17 goals in 14 appearances for Lazio so far this season, Immobile has shone himself to be a veritable fox in the box.

Goal-scorers are like gold-dust to any team – their innate ability to pop up with a match-deciding strike prized above all other attributes in the beautiful game.

With Italian defences renowned as some of the sturdiest in world football, Immobile’s ability to hit the back of the net against the best singles him out as an ideal candidate for Chelsea to sign.
