Celtic Poised to Hijack Chelsea and Arsenal Pursuits of Boro Youngster Calum Kavanagh

?Things are hotting up in the race to pry teenage prospect Calum Kavanagh from Middlesbrough, with Celtic the latest club to show interest.

They join Arsenal and Chelsea in monitoring his progress after the Irish striker has impressed in the Under-18 Premier League, one of the best prospects despite only turning 16 in September.

The ?Irish Herald report that Celtic are ready to intercept any offer from the Premier League, with the promise of better chances to break into the senior team.

Celtic have a great track record in recent years of bringing young talent north of the border and developing them into first team players. Youngsters such as Luca Connell and Armstrong Okoflex have been the latest players attempting to follow Moussa Dembele’s footsteps and allow the Glasgow club to mould them.

Middlesbrough want to hang onto their prized asset though, and are hoping for the help of the player’s father, former Boro and Ireland player Graham Kavanagh, to convince him to sign a long term deal, with Calum himself pushing for a shorter contract to give him better options as his development improves.

Graham Kavanagh

Speaking about his son’s situation, Kavanagh Sr. said “Middlesbrough are speaking to him about a contract, as they have been for the last number of weeks. We will have to see where that goes and what happens with that.”

It remains to be seen where the talented forward will end up, but with Newcastle and Leicester also poised to swoop, his days on Teeside may be numbered.

His father however, who started his professional career at Middlesbrough before making a name for himself at Stoke and Cardiff, remains positive that wherever young Calum ends up, he’ll have enough to make it at the highest level.

“For the age he is at and what he is doing, he is certainly a better prospect than I was at that age. He’s got a great mindset, is very professional, very driven and tough, mentally strong. He’s definitely got a chance.”

Chelsea Stance on Future of Midfielder N’Golo Kante – Real Madrid & PSG Interested

Exclusive – ?Chelsea are ready to part with two-time Premier League winner and former PFA Player of the Year N’Golo Kante – if Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain formalise their interest and offer the right price.

Kante has established himself as arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world since first moving to England as a complete unknown in 2015, but the Frenchman is now 29 and Chelsea are beginning to consider what comes next.

FBL-ENG-PR-LEICESTER-CHELSEA

A source has told 90min that Real Madrid have a close eye on Kante, seeing the 2018 World Cup winner as part of a French-inspired recruitment plan.

Coach Zinedine Zidane wants Kante at the Bernabeu, as well as his France international colleagues Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe.

However, there could be stiff competition for Zidane and Los Blancos because perennial French champions PSG would make a serious bid of their own if they feel Kante is available.

90min understands that while Chelsea remain more than happy with Kante, who has played 164 games since moving to Stamford Bridge from Leicester in 2016, they would consider allowing him to leave at the end of the season if an acceptable bid is received.

As things stand, Kante has three more years left on his current Chelsea contract, but he will be 32 by the time that deal expires and is not expected to extend it.

Mesut Ozil,NGolo Kante

For the first time in his career, Kante has also started to suffer with injuries this season and had endured three different spells out of action before the campaign was forcibly halted as a result of the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

What’s more, Chelsea believe they have other good options in midfield moving forward.

Jorginho is vice-captain, Mateo Kovacic has impressed in recent months, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is returning to full fitness, Ross Barkley is another body and now Billy Gilmour is also getting game time. Mason Mount typically operates further forward but has also been used as a more orthodox central midfielder at times this season as well.

Premier League Stars Announce #PlayersTogether Initiative to Help NHS Battle Coronavirus Outbreak

Premier League footballers have announced a movement created called #PlayersTogether that is partnered with NHS Charities Together to help battle the coronavirus outbreak.

The player initiative has been formed in order to assist the NHS in generating and distributing funds quickly and efficiently.

Numerous talks between top flight professionals have been taking place with the idea of creating a contribution fund that will ensure funding is put where it’s most needed during the Covid-19 crisis.

Recently, some blame has – rightly or wrongly – been directed towards Premier League footballers for not using their status in society to help deal with the current global climate. Health Secretary Matt Hancock called on top flight players to offer their assistance in contributing funds towards the cause.

The full statement, released across social media by a plethora of Premier League players including ?Harry Maguire, reads: “Over the course of the last week, we as a group of Premier League players, have held numerous talks together with the vision of creating a contribution fund that can be used to distribute money to where it’s needed most in the COVID19 crisis; helping those fighting for us on the NHS frontline as well as other key areas of need.

“This is a critical time for our country and for our NHS, and we are determined to help in any way that we can.

“We can confirm that after extensive conversations between a huge number of players from all Premier League clubs we have created out own collective player initiative, #PlayersTogether, and have partnered with NHS Charities Together (NHSCT) in order to assist them in generating and distributing funds quickly and efficiently to where they are needed most.

“NHSCT is the national umbrella organisation for over 150 registered NHS charities, working closely with the Charity Commission, Department of Health and Social Care, and NHS England to represent, champion, and support the NHS’ official charities. NHSCT are the official charity partner of the NHS nationally.

“The contributions that this initiative will generate will help NHSCT quickly grant funds to the front line to support in a number of ways, including to help enhance the well-being of NHS Staff, volunteers and patients impacted by COVID-19 as well as helping them in their work supporting many other critical areas of need both now and in the longer term.

“#PlayersTogether is about we, as players, collaborating together to create a voluntary initiative, separate to any other club and league conversations, that ca help get much needed funds to those that need it right now. To try and help, along with so many others in the country, make a real difference.

“Our prayers and thoughts go out to everybody affected by this crisis. By sticking together, we will get through this.”Stay Home. Protect the NHS. Save Lives.”

6 Known Football Manager Saves by Professional Footballers

?If, like all of us, you’ve rediscovered your love of video games during this lockdown period, then it’s more than likely you’re familiar with Football Manager.

One of the most in-depth, meticulous and downright magnificent games ever produced is loved and adored by many, as players take on immense challenges with the aim of guiding their chosen side to the very top.

When I said ‘all of us’, though, I did actually mean all of us. As, just like us normal folk, footballers are also getting lost in the world of gaming as they embark on their own periods of solace and isolation. And yes, believe it or not, those whose jobs it is to play football every day actually like to maintain that theme in their free time.

Normally FIFA is the chosen football game of the professionals, but Football Manager also ranks highly among the options available. And just like the adventurous and crazy of us, the pros have succeeded in making some pretty impressive saves in the game.

Here are a few of the best ones…

Antoine Griezmann’s Arsenal

Last summer rumours surfaced that Antoine Griezmann might be a closet ?Arsenal fan (something at present it isn’t best to shout home about) when he revealed his Gunners squad in 2023. Which, by the way, obviously isn’t true because it’s just a game.

His tack was to discard all of the current Arsenal squad and replace them with up and coming British talent, with a few sprinkles of European talent thrown in for good measure.

The likes of ?Borussia Dortmund‘s Jadon Sancho and ?Liverpool‘s Andy Robertson feature, while he caused outrage with his friend and international teammate Alexandre Lacazette by revealing he sold him to Huddersfield Town. Ouch.

He scooped a few trophies along the way including the ?Premier League, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the ?Champions League. Not a bad haul, and something that shows anything truly can happen in the virtual world.

Ousmane Dembele’s Winchester FC

Now this, this is proper Football Manager nerd behaviour.

Rather than opting for one of the hundreds of clubs available on the game, ?Ousmane Dembele spent his downtime in the 2018 World Cup making like the characters in Shaun of the Dead and heading to the Winchester.

The Barcelona starlet used the game’s editor to create ‘Winchester FC’ with the intention of taking his new minnows from the eighth tier all the way up to the Premier League, while bringing a ‘South American atmosphere’ during each game. We don’t know why either, but God we’re glad he did.

How he got on we’re not too sure, but his fellow teammate, Griezmann, did make some pretty startling accusations of his pal, including giving himself £40m while in the third division.

Amazingly, his escapades actually led to a flurry of interest in the real Winchester City FC, who play in the BetVictor Southern South Division.

Adam le Fondre Getting Sacked By SC Paderborn

After netting just why of 200 goals for a host of clubs across the English Football League, Adam le Fondre has since taken the next step in his career by joining Sydney FC. There he has……Nah, sod it, who cares? All we care about is Football Manager.

The striker’s most recent save hasn’t gone quite as planned, unfortunately, after revealing SC Paderborn sacked him as manager following a cup final loss, ninth place league finish and a European exit at the hands of Roma.

He’s since embarked on a new step in his managerial career, taking on the vacant Fiorentina job. The latest update is that he’s guided them to sixth, but struggling to balance the wage bill and maintain a competitive squad. We wish him all the best.

Diogo Jota’s Telford United

While some footballers have been getting up to no good during quarantine, ?Wolves‘ Diogo Jota has been putting everyone to shame with some serious playing time registered on Football Manager.

While it’s tough to be productive in these times, Jota has shown you can maintain your work ethic in a different manager. His particular forte has been Telford United. Down in the National League North – the sixth tier of English football – he’s managed to steer them all the way up to the Premier League in 2029.

With just a 30-minute drive separating Wolverhampton from Telford, it’s likely he’s chosen his ‘local’ team which, if true, makes this save that extra bit sweeter.

Cesar Azpilicueta’s Chelsea Conundrum

[embedded content]

Captain of ?Chelsea, 25 caps for Spain and always a dedicated professional whenever he plays, it’s no wonder that Cesar Azplilicueta knows a thing or two about football. What also can’t be questioned is his devotion to the sport, something that is blatantly clear in a video he made on the game’s official YouTube page.

Before joining the Blues from Marseille, Azpilicueta had risen through hometown club Osasuna’s youth ranks – who are his chosen team in the game. While the details of his progress aren’t known for sure, one thing is for certain…..he can’t sign any Chelsea players.

He openly admitted they ‘always refused to join’, including those from the club’s youth teams. What does west London have against Pamplona?

Joe Lolley’s Almighty Shrewsbury Town & Oxford & Gloucester

Joe Lolley

Nottingham Forest’s Player of the Season in the 2018/19 campaign has shown over the years his skillset extends beyond the digital world. Not just savvy with a ball at his feet, Lolley clearly has a keen eye for the managerial side of thing with his impressive save on the game.

Speaking on the game’s ?official website he revealed his save with Shrewsbury, but also casually dropped in a stupendous alternative with Oxford City. It’s 100% football all the time for the winger, apparently.

He revealed: “We won the domestic league [with Shrewsbury] and were the best team in Europe every year for about eight to 10 years. I finished around 2040 playing a ridiculous formation (which I’ve never ever been able to replicate with any success) and winning roughly every game in the Joe Lolley stadium. Good times.”

“My current save with Oxford City is up to 2037 and I’ve gone from conference South to five top flight titles and three European trophies, so that’s right up there,” he nonchalantly added.

Currently in lockdown Lolley has taken Gloucester to the Premier League title after 20 seasons…

#SubsForScrubs: Introducing 90min’s Campaign to Show Support for the NHS

Before experiencing the coronavirus pandemic, football fans across the globe regularly attended football matches in stadiums, played in leagues and/or watched teams go head-to-head on TV.

Now, with football being suspended, we’re left with extra time and money that we would have otherwise spent watching and playing the sport we love.

So why not put that time and money to good use?

We at 90min believe this is our time to do what football fans do best – rally together in support of one common goal. And while that goal previously was to see our football heroes win a match or tournament, we’re now cheering on a different kind of hero – the doctors and nurses who are on the frontlines caring for those who have been affected by the virus.

Here’s how you can help…

What Is the #SubsForScrubs Challenge?

In a nutshell, we’re asking that while we’re all in lockdown and can’t go and have a regular kickabout, you donate the money you usually would have paid to play (subs) to the guys in the NHS (scrubs) that are taking care of us all.

We want football fans and players around the world – from grassroots up to the professional game – to make a one-off donation of £5, the equivalent of a standard Sunday league or five-a-side match fee

How Do I Get Involved?

Get your kit on!

If you’d usually have a football match on a weekday evening or at the weekend, get into your matchday kit, make a donation and tell us about it.

  1. Jump into your full football kit (shin pads too if you’ve got them!)
  2. Take a photo or video of yourself in your kit
  3. Upload photo or video to Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or Tik Tok
  4. Tag ?@90min_Football and use the hashtag #SubsForScrubs
  5. In that same post, also tag and nominate your teammates, friends and family to take the #SubsForScrubs challenge

?Where Do I Donate Money?

Right here on our ?JustGiving page.

Once donated, please also remember to spread the word to get your teammates involved, as well as your football-loving colleagues, family and friends to help get as much support to the NHS as we can during this time.

Can I Donate More Than a Fiver?

Of course you can.

The reason we are asking for £5 donations is that amount is what many grassroots players around the country will pay a week to play football.

However, we also know that everyone’s circumstances are different and if you want to donate more, or less, please feel free to give what you can.

100% of your donation will go to the National Health Service.

How Can I Keep Updated?

?90min will be championing all who take part over the coming weeks on ur website and across our social channels, so keep your eyes peeled for your kitted up pictures and videos.

We will also be providing regular updates on the progress of the campaign, money raised and more.

Thanks in advance!
