Oscar’s Olympic dream is over after his Brazil side were beaten 2-1 in the final by Mexico.
The defeat means one of the greatest football nations is still awaiting its first gold medal in the sport at the Olympics, after defeat in a game where they were favourites.
The afternoon started badly for the Brazilians when Manchester United defender Rafael gifted the ball to the Mexicans inside the first minute, allowing Oscar Peralta to power home.
Brazil dominated possession with the Chelsea midfielder pulling the strings, and going close to an equaliser himself, but with just over a quarter of an hour remaining it was Peralta who struck again, heading home from a wide free-kick.
Hulk pulled a goal back in injury time, before his cross found Oscar inside the six-yard box with a chance to equalise, only to head over the bar with the last touch of the game.
Oscar now joins up with the senior Brazil squad for a midweek friendly, before reporting to Chelsea following international duty.
