The Chelsea Under-21 side play their final game in the first group stage of the new Under-21 Premier League when they take on Middlesbrough away this evening (Monday).
The Riverside Stadium is the venue with a 7pm kick-off.
Chelsea and Middlesbrough are third and fourth respectively in our group, level on points and one point behind Wolves who are second.
It means there is plenty to play for tonight as the final top two sides qualify for the elite group when the second stage of the competition takes place in the new year. The third-place side may also qualify but that depends on comparison with the third-place side in one of the other groups, which currently looks likely to have a higher points total than Chelsea’s group.
The teams not making the elite group will go into other second stage groups.
Dermot Drummy’s side head into tonight’s match in good form having taken 10 points from the last 12 available although there are likely to be changes to the line-up with several of the more regular appearance makers, including topscorer Islam Feruz, having played in the FA Youth Cup win at Colchester on Saturday. Second highest scorer Patrick Bamford has now gone out on loan, as have captain Todd Kane and midfielder Conor Clifford, who featured in the previous away game, a 3-3 draw at Liverpool.
The young Blues are looking to make up for a 3-1 home defeat by Middlesbrough back in September when Bamford scored the Chelsea goal.
Entry at the Riverside is £3.
