Demba Ba’s joy at scoring his first home goal was tempered by Southampton’s second-half comeback, as the two teams shared the spoils at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues led 2-0 at the break, courtesy of strikes from Ba and Eden Hazard, before Rickie Lambert and Jason Puncheon hit back for the visitors.
‘We had some good moments, but some bad ones as well,’ Ba told Chelsea TV.
‘Southampton were lucky to only go in at half-time 2-0 down because it could have been more, but we need to finish all the chances we have and put the ball in the back of the net.’
Speaking about his first goal at Stamford Bridge, his third since signing for the Blues, Ba added: ‘It was a good goal. I was happy at half-time, when we went into the changing room with a two-goal difference.
‘At the end of the day, though, we conceded two goals, and went back home with only a point. Southampton came back and we let them believe they could get something from the game and they took their chance.’
The Senegalese striker also acknowledged we are finding it difficult at home when teams set up simply to nullify our attacking threat.
‘It’s different when teams come here; they just want to defend and don’t want to lose,’ said the 27-year-old. ‘When we go away, they always look to take their chances and they think they can win at home.
‘That’s why the games are always more open when we play away, but at home we need to get back to winning ways.’
