Before he departed with the rest of the squad for Tyneside, Demba Ba sat down with Chelsea TV to talk about a game with extra significance for him.
A clip of the interview can be seen here and the full interview will be available via the channel’s online access and in the Wherever They May Be show at 2.30pm which will be reporting and commenting on the game.
Ba’s time at Newcastle was not especially long but it was prolific. He scored 29 goals in 57 appearances there, 13 of them this season prior to his move to London right at the start of the January transfer window.
‘It is little bit special because I left just four weeks ago and I still have some good friends at Newcastle,’ he said.
‘The team has changed a little bit but I still know most of the players. Four weeks goes very fast and I am looking forward to it.
‘It will be strange, just a month after the move, but now I am going to go there and play for the blue shirt. I am going to give everything and try to score a lot of goals as well.’
Ba is settling into life at his new club. He has been sharing centre-forward duties with Fernando Torres with the heavy fixture schedule giving him plenty of opportunities.
‘I finished the busy period with Newcastle after the Boxing Day and then I came here for another busy period,’ he told Chelsea TV. ‘But that is why we play football, to play games and to play some important games and I am happy with that.’
