COURTOIS LOAN EXTENDED

It has been confirmed today (Monday) that Thibaut Courtois will remain on loan at Atletico Madrid next season.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper joined Chelsea in July 2011 from Racing Genk and has spent the two seasons since with the La Liga club. It has been a highly successful loan with Courtois the first-choice keeper throughout, making 52 appearances and winning the Europa League in his first season there. Last campaign he won the UEFA Super Cup, the Spanish Cup when city rivals Real were beaten in their own stadium in the final, and he helped Atletico to third place in La Liga.

He let in just 30 goals in 37 league matches which earned him the Ricardo Zamora award for the goalkeeper in the Spanish top flight with the fewest goals conceded per game ratio. He also set new club records for minutes without conceding at home and away. In total he has made 98 appearances for Atletico.

Since signing for Chelsea, Courtois has become a Belgian international, their youngest keeper ever, and has nine caps.
