The official Chelsea website is taking a look back at the 2012/13 season through images taken over the course of the campaign, capturing the action as it unfolded, including goals scored, team celebrations, supporters’ reactions and behind-the-scenes shots.
It was a season which saw the Blues play an astonishing 69 matches, and with no shortage of moments to reflect on, today we re-live the month of November…
Victor Moses netted his first in the league for the club in a 1-1 draw at Swansea on a bitterly cold November afternoon. The goal, which came 12 minutes from time, looked to have won us the match, but Michael Laudrup’s side levelled in the dying minutes, ensuring we headed back to the capital with one point rather than three.
Having scored with his head at the Liberty Stadium, Moses did it again four days later. With our Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk tied at 2-2 in added time, the Nigerian international rose to meet a Juan Mata corner and head home a dramatic late winner.
Our home game against Liverpool was an eventful one for the Chelsea skipper. John Terry had given us the lead early on with a powerful header, but his afternoon came to a premature end following an accidental collision with Luis Suarez shortly before the break. It was an injury which would keep Terry sidelined until mid January.
Having already dropped precious league points against Swansea and Liverpool, our game at West Bromwich Albion took on greater significance. Shane Long headed the hosts in front, and though we equalised through Eden Hazard, Long scored his second of the game late on to seal the win for the Baggies.
Our hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League were dealt a severe blow when we were beaten 3-0 away at Juventus. Following our earlier results against Shakhtar Donetsk, the defeat ensured our fate was no longer in our own hands.
By the next game Roberto Di Matteo had been replaced by Rafael Benitez on an interim basis. Manchester City were the visitors and both sides spurned the odd chance but defences were largely on top. Winter was upon us.
Charlie Cooke, a player who served the club so well during the 1960s and 70s, took to the pitch and addressed the crowd during the half-time interval at our home game against neighbours Fulham.
The match itself followed a similar pattern to the one against Manchester City the previous weekend, and the result was the same. Fernando Torres is policed well at this moment.
