Thorgan Hazard and Belgium Under-21s’ winning run in the European Under-21 Championship qualifiers came to an end on Monday. Having taken all the points from their opening four matches, they lost 1-0 at home to second-place Italy.
Hazard, currently on loan in his homeland at Zulte Waregem, played the whole game.
Milan Lalkovic played the full match for Slovakia Under-21s as they remained level on points with the Netherlands at the top of their qualifying group, albeit having played a game more. The result on Monday was a 3-0 home win over Luxembourg although the Chelsea striker did not make the scoresheet despite first-half chances.
The Dutch Under-21s played a friendly but did not match their performance last week when the beat Georgia 6-0 in a qualifier. Instead they lost 3-0 at home to Austria with Nathan Ake playing the full game.
Three Chelsea players were involved in England Under-18s’ 4-0 win over Hungary at St George’s Park.
Ola Aina and Kasey Palmer started the second of a double-header of fixtures for this age group which rarely takes to the field, and both were subbed in the second half. Alex Kiwomya was introduced late in the game. All four goals came in the first half with Palmer supplying the pass for the fourth.
