?Real Madrid’s slim hopes of signing Eden Hazard have ended after the Chelsea superstar informed them he would not be joining them this summer.
The Belgium international phoned Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane, according to ?Diario Gol, to tell him that a transfer to the Bernabeu would not be going through before the September deadline.
The paper goes on to report that Hazard wants to remain with Chelsea for at least one more season and, coupled with his rehabilitation programme following a broken ankle sustained on international duty in June, would not favour a switch to Spain at the present time.
However, the 26-year-old is believed to have informed Zidane that he is not closing the door on a transfer to the Champions League holders completely, and the chances are that Hazard will be heavily linked with a move to Real in about a year’s time again.
Real have courted Hazard for the past 12 months in the hope that he would be swayed into departing Stamford Bridge for the bright lights of Spain’s capital.
Gossip column inches have been filled with various reports tipping the ex-Lille star to join Zidane’s cause – particularly with the futures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale being speculated about – but no official offer has ever winged its way to Chelsea’s board.
Media reports back in March alleged that the Blues would look to fend off Real’s interest in their talisman by offering him a new, improved contract worth around £300,000-a-week, but those talks were put on hold by Hazard’s representatives in April to help the team concentrate on their Premier League title push.
With Hazard’s recovery period from his ankle issue now taking precedence, it may be a while yet before he fully commits his future to the club – for the time being at least.
Hazard’s current contract runs until June 2020, and the forward has bagged himself 72 goals and 62 assists in 249 appearances for Chelsea since his 2012 move from France.
