Turkish Delight: 7 Players Who Could Make a Surprise Move to Turkey Before the Deadline

You’d be forgiven for thinking that all the summer transfer drama was over, but Turkey has other ideas.

The Turkish deadline for transfers is in fact on Friday September 8th, meaning that players from all over the world can still come and ply their trade in eastern Europe.

Let’s take a look at some players heavily linked with moves to the Super Lig.

7. Kenedy

The 21-year-old has looked destined for a move away from Stamford Bridge all summer, and a move to Turkey may be the last chance for the Brazilian to get some much needed game time.

A move to Newcastle failed to materialise for Kenedy, but Galatasaray are reportedly in talks to sign either him or team mate Abdul Baba Rahman on loan before the deadline.

For Kenedy’s sake, he would hope that he gets his move in order to reignite his stagnating career.

6. Abdul Baba Rahman

FC Schalke 04 v Bayer 04 Leverkusen - Bundesliga

Not too dissimilar to Kenedy, Baba Rahman’s future looks to be away from Stamford Bridge, with the Ghanaian proving to be a massive flop since signing from Schalke.

Galatasaray are also interested in taking Rahman on loan, and the 23-year-old so desperately needs a move away if he is to have any chance of resurrecting what used to be a very promising career.

5. Kevin Mirallas

FC Twente v Everton FC - Preseason Friendly

The Belgian has found consistent game time hard to come by at Everton recently, and after a flurry of new signings entered the doors at Goodison Park, such as Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen, Mirallas finds himself in limbo.

Fenerbahce have been interested in taking the 29-year-old on loan, but Everton are reportedly only interested in a permanent deal.

4. Oumar Niasse

After seeing a £9m move to Crystal Palace collapse on deadline day due to agent fee issues, Niasse finds himself unwanted at Everton and in need of a new club.

The only way he can leave Goodison now would be a move back to Turkey, where Everton initially signed him from Lokomotiv Moscow.

Either that, or the Senegalese international will find himself in limbo for another six months.

3. Lazar Markovic

Tranmere Rovers v Liverpool - Pre Season Friendly

Since signing for Liverpool from Benfica, Markovic has been an overriding flop and has spent time away on loan at Fenerbahce and Hull.

Incidentally, the former are interested in taking the Serbian back on loan again before Friday’s deadline, with Liverpool open to letting the winger depart Anfield as Jurgen Klopp looks to trim the deadwood from his squad.

The 23-year-old has been left out of the Reds’ Champions League squad, and his time at Anfield looks to be over.

2. Jack Wilshere

Arsenal v Manchester City: Premier League 2

Trabzonspor have expressed an interest in taking the Arsenal misfit on a season-long loan, and after Wilshere’s antics in the Arsenal reserve team, Arsene Wenger may not be adverse to handing the 25-year-old a change of scenery.

Wilshere reportedly wants to stay and fight for his place at the Emirates, but whether or not Wenger allows him to remains to be seen.

1. Diego Costa

Spain v Colombia - International Friendly

Diego Costa’s future remains in limbo. The striker is still in his homeland of Brazil having failed to report back to Chelsea for the start of the season, and after an expected move to Atletico Madrid failed to materialise, Costa’s next move remains up in the air.

Besiktas and Fenerbache are pushing to secure the Brazilian born Spain international before Friday’s deadline, and Costa would be wise to take their offers seriously if he wants to have any chance of playing football before January.
