Chelsea News Roundup: Pickford ‘Talks’, Tammy Admission & More

?Football may have been brought to an abrupt halt across the globe as a result of the coronavirus crisis, but there is still plenty going on behind the scenes.

There is lots of work to be done, both in terms of planning for the sport’s return and looking ahead to the transfer window – whenever it might open.

?Chelsea are among the clubs staying busy, with the club’s name in the headlines for a variety of reasons over the past couple of days, some more laughable than others.

So, hold onto your hats – here’s a roundup of the latest Blues news.

Tammy Makes Rashford Admission

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has admitted he would ‘love’ to play alongside Manchester United front man Marcus Rashford in a strike force.

Speaking in ?an interview with Rio Ferdinand for Copa90, Abraham said: “Who impressed me when I’ve been with England? Marcus Rashford. The way he strikes a ball. His skills. His good feet. The way he beats players. ‘He’s just a joy to watch. I’d love to [play up front with him].”

Of course, that’s not to say Abraham is planning to jump ship for United or vice versa, with the pair likely to get their chance to play together with England.

Abramovich Gestures Prompted Chelsea Pay Cuts

Roman Abramovich

According to ?The Sun, Roman Abramovich’s work to fight coronavirus prompted the Chelsea squad to agree to a pay cut.

The Chelsea owner has offered NHS staff free accommodation at the 72-room hotel at Stamford Bridge, while the kitchens at the stadium have been used to prepare meals for key workers.

The Sun’s report suggests that these charitable actions convinced the Blues’ playing staff ?to take a ten per cent wage cut.

Barcelona Unsure on Chelsea Target

Lautaro Martinez

Barcelona boss Quique Setién has admitted that coronavirus may disrupt a move for Inter star Lautaro Martinez.

The striker has been linked with a move to Chelsea too, although Barcelona is thought to be his preference.

Speaking to Spain’s Onda Cero radio station (via the ?Mirror), he said: “We talk about transfers, but this pandemic is going to condition many things. The situation of the clubs will be economically complicated. I am not pessimistic or optimistic with Lautaro. I like how I like great footballers, but I have no illusions with any.”

Pickford Linked With £44m Move

Jordan Pickford

Take this one with a pinch of salt.

Chelsea are said to be considering replacing their erratic and error prone goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga with Jordan Pickford – an erratic and error prone goalkeeper.

According to ?Tuttomercatoweb, talks with the 26-year-old have ‘intensified’ as the Blues ponder replacing their current no.1.

The Italian outlet reckon Pickford would cost about £44m. We’re not convinced this one is a goer.
