Leroy Sané let slip that Chelsea may have already secured a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, during his first press conference as a Bayern Munich player.
Sané recently completed a €45m switch from Manchester City to Bayern, a deal he had desired for some time.
Die Roten are currently preparing for their Champions League round of 16 second leg against Chelsea next month and although he is not available for the tie, the forward still expressed an opinion of Frank Lampard’s side when quizzed by the media.
It may have been a few throw away comments, but it was enough to send the Blues supporters into a full-on meltdown on social media as Sané seemed to suggest that the club have a deal for his international teammate sewn up.
“It’s good for Chelsea, that they signed two German top talents with Timo Werner and Kai Havertz this summer,” he said (via ESPN)
Sané’s comments caused pandemonium on social media but as is often the case, Chelsea fans were brought back down to earth by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
“Leroy Sané basically knows that Kai Havertz wants to join Chelsea. Havertz is pushing by two weeks. His contract until June 2025 is ready as said days ago. ‘The player is not a problem’. Chelsea are going to start talks with Leverkusen to find an agreement,” he tweeted.
Perhaps Sané knows something that Romano does not though? The two players are familiar with each other – having been involved in the Germany set up together – and maybe Havertz has let slip that a deal is imminent.
The Blues are already known to be in pole position to secure his services with the Leverkusen captain holding discussion with his current employers in an attempt to move the deal along. Chelsea will face stiff competition for one of the brightest prospects in world football however, with Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and a host of other top sides all said to be interested.
