Internationals: Werner scores and Havertz shines in big Germany win

In the opening 45 minutes Havertz was in a mobile and effective role in a front three. Popping up on the left, he shot narrowly wide within the first two minutes before making the first goal, scored in the 19th minute by Atalanta wing-back Robin Gosens.

Taking a pass from Gosens on the left, Havertz escaped round the back before laying the ball off for the goalscorer, and then he supplied the pass for Ilkay Gundogan, so recently on the opposite team in the Champions League final, to fire in the second goal.

Thomas Muller made it 3-0 in the 27th minute before Havertz, after skilfully reaching the byline on the right, saw his attempted ball into the centre deflect into the net off the leg of Latvia goalkeeper Roberts Ozols.
